decorating tips & tricks
Q:
I have just moved into a great new apartment in the Fan, and it came with these wonderful high ceilings in the living room/kitchen and the upstairs hallway. I have no idea what to do with the wall space above my couch and the kitchen table, or in the hallway upstairs. Help!

Hi Erica,
What a wonderful problem to have … you have a clean slate to work with! Here are some suggestions for your decorating dilemma.
Above the couch, consider either symmetrical or asymmetrical groups of artwork, mirrors, photographs, sconces, and shelves.

Using pieces of artwork massed together with careful consideration to composition and negative space can have a wonderful effect.
You can add some fun to your kitchen by using plates or serving platters mounted on shelves or plate racks. Group these with artwork or images, wall sconces, and greenery will add additional life and color to this space.

Hallways are the perfect place to group family photos and fun shots of friends and faraway places. Again, mixing in small shelves, shadow boxes of artifacts, and mirrors will contribute interest and depth to this usually-ignored area of your home.
